A/S Øresund owns, operates and maintains the Øresund motorway and the Øresund rail line, which are the connecting facilities to the Øresund Bridge on the Danish side.
The Øresund facility is one of Denmark’s most important transport links and when it opened in 1997 and 1998, it marked an upturn in mobility at an international, national, regional and local level.
The EU has recognised the facility as an important component in the creation of the coherent transport network, Trans-European Network (TEN), which is one of the pre-requisites for a common market with free movement. The project, therefore, received financial subsidies from TEN funds.
A/S Øresund also owns 50 per cent of Øresundsbro Konsortiet, which operates the Øresund Bridge, which is owned by both Denmark and Sweden.
A/S Øresund exists as a legal entity, which means that agreements are entered into with A/S Øresund while all employees who are involved in the agreements are employed by Sund & Bælt Holding A/S. Borrowing also takes place in A/S Øresund’s name. The company’s financial management is handled in co-operation with Øresundsbro Konsortiet.
