Topic: New technology optimises operation and maintenance on Storebælt

Sund & Bælt is now using new technology and data to optimise daily operation and maintenance of its assets. This means that the lifetime of the Storebælt Bridge is expected to be extended by 50 to 100 years.

Sund & Bælt and Artificial Intelligence

Over the past few years, drones have been flying around the Storebælt Bridge, taking thousands of photographs of the concrete.

The images are stored in the cloud via the Microsoft-platform Azure, where algorithms identify damage to the concrete which needs to be repaired quickly.

The process enables Sund & Bælt to focus on the concrete damage that requires attention – and fewer engineers are needed to clamber around the bridge at heights of 100 m to inspect it.
