Our business ethics

Sund & Bælt associates itself with various programmes, including the Global Compact and Code of Conduct, to ensure excellent business ethics. We also have a whistleblower system for both employees and third parties.

Global compact

Sund & Bælt has been aligned with the UN Global Compact– the world’s largest voluntary initiative for Corporate Social Responsibility – since 2009. The principles of CSR are divided into four themes: human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption. These are general principles that every company can incorporate into their business strategy when working with CSR.

See the ten principles here

  1. The company should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights;
  2. The company should ensure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses;
  3. The company should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
  4. The company should support the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
  5. The company should support the effective abolition of child labour;
  6. The company should eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation;
  7. The company should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
  8. The company should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility
  9. The company should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies;
  10. The company should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Code of Conduct – for suppliers

At Sund & Bælt we recognise the importance of our responsibility to promote sustainable development. We work systematically to meet the requirements of the Global Compact, which include respect for universally recognised standards for the environment, human rights and anti-corruption.

We expect our suppliers to also recognise their social and environmental responsibilities in order that we can meet our goal of responsible procurement of goods and services. We have therefore prepared a Code of Conduct, which contains the guidelines with which our suppliers should comply.

“Suppliers” in this case means all of Sund & Bælt’s suppliers of goods and services as well as contractors and their suppliers.

Anti-corruption

It has always been part of Sund & Bælt’s culture to conduct business in a responsible and ethical manner, which includes fighting against all forms of corruption, extortion and bribery. Sund & Bælt complies with Danish and international requirements applying to the tender process, which ensures a high degree of transparency. The tender processes include an appeals body that enables bidders to submit complaints to an independent entity.

Sund & Bælt sometimes operates in a political environment. It is therefore important that negotiations and co-operation activities are carried out with the utmost transparency and that there is no dispute concerning the professional approach to the tendered tasks and partnerships of different types.

Whistleblower system

Sund & Bælt’s whistleblower system creates transparency and is consistent with our focus on corporate governance. It makes it possible to report significant instances of financial crimes, such as embezzlement, bribery, fraud and forgery or breach of safety at work, environmental rules and environmental pollution as well as physical violence and sexual abuse.

Our online whistleblower system register all reports on an external portal by all employees, board members and third parties such as suppliers, consultants and others related to Sund & Bælt.
