We develop the digital traffic and payment solutions of the future

With more than 25 years of experience and expertise in user-funded infrastructure, we contribute to developing the digital traffic and payment solutions of the future.

"Sund & Bælt's organisation and system platform within tolling enable us to deliver traffic and payment solutions cheaper, faster, and with greater security."

Ole Lykke Christensen, Tolling Director at Sund & Bælt

Green transition of the Danish road transport

A kilometer-based and CO2-differentiated road toll on trucks helps reduce CO2 emissions and wear and tear on the infrastructure, accidents, noise, and air pollution caused by trucks.

Trucks of 12 tons and above must pay road tolls depending on how far they drive and how much CO2 they emit. Sund & Bælt is responsible for toll collection and enforcement. Tolls are primarily collected through EETS providers. Trucks are monitored using automatic number plate recognition and vehicle equipment, which are compared with data on their trips.

We are currently preparing to expand the scheme to include trucks weighing 3.5 tons or more from 1 January 2027, and subsequently to include the entire public road network from 1 January 2028.

Road pricing trial with passenger cars

Sund & Bælt is conducting a road pricing trial with passenger cars in collaboration with DTU. The trial examines how road tolls impact congestion, climate, health, road safety, and the environment.

Number plate cameras support the monitoring of low emission zones

Sund & Bælt is responsible for monitoring the five low emission zones in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Odense, Aarhus, and Aalborg on behalf of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.

Vehicles must comply with the rules in the low emission zones, which aim to reduce particle pollution.

The monitoring of low emission zones is carried out by automatically reading number plates and comparing them with information about the vehicles in motor registries.

Number plate and Bizz

The company Brobizz A/S is behind the payment products, payment by number plate, and Bizz.

The payment products enable automatic payment of tolls on ferries, bridges, and roads, among others.

This provides customers with a seamless journey throughout Denmark, avoiding stops at toll bridges and the hassle of handling credit cards and reservation numbers when boarding ferries.

New toll facility at Storebælt and Fehmarn

Sund & Bælt is in the process of procuring a new toll facility system for the Storebælt bridge, which can also be used for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel.

New technology will make crossing Storebælt - and in the future, driving in the Fehmarnbelt tunnel - both faster and easier.
