Sund & Bælt at the Danish Marine Science Meeting 2026
We want to share all of this data with the public so that researchers, environmental organisations and other interested parties can benefit from knowledge about the marine environment.
To contribute to knowledge sharing, we are participating in the 23rd Danish Marine Science Meeting, taking place from 20 to 22 January in Helsingør. This year, the conference is organised by Aarhus University and Tænketanken Hav and is for everyone working with the marine environment.
For Sund & Bælt, it is important to be familiar with the latest research, which is crucial to our work on major marine construction projects. At our stand, we also share experiences and insights from our extensive environmental data, which we continuously monitor and collect across projects such as the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, the Eastern Ring Road and storm surge protection around Copenhagen.
Since construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel began in 2020, the environmental portal Ægir has been a central place to find information about the environment in the construction area. Around the clock, measurement stations send data to Ægir, making it easy for biologists and other experts to follow developments in the area. This applies both on land and at sea, where it is possible to delve into a wealth of information on the populations of harbour porpoises, waterbirds and plants on the seabed.
Similarly, the data collected on the aquatic environment in connection with the environmental impact assessment of the Eastern Ring Road is shared in the national database VanDa, which is a publicly accessible database hosted by Danmarks Miljøportal (the Danish Environmental Portal). This includes data on water quality, eelgrass, benthic fauna and algae.
Hydrometric data on, among other things, water level and discharge currently being collected in connection with the storm surge protection project around Copenhagen is also available on Vandportalen.
We look forward to meeting researchers, authorities and businesses for a professional dialogue on how we design, build and operate marine infrastructure with respect for the marine environment.
