Sunday 7 August was a bumper travel day for Danes who were returning either from the music festival, Smukfest, the 'Superliga' football championship, concerts featuring Ed Sheeran and Lukas Graham, or their summer vacation. No fewer than 61,528 vehicles crossed the Storebælt Bridge on that day, which is the highest number of vehicles ever to cross the bridge in a single day.
Jens Kjær Nielsen, Toll Station Manager, says that Sunday’s record was caused by the many events taking place across the country over the weekend:
"It was certainly an eventful weekend for many Danes. Another factor in the record-breaking Sunday were the many new residential school ('efterskole') students who were driven to school by their parents in tightly packed cars ready for the Monday start,” explains Jens Kjær Nielsen.
Sunday’s record is 9.3 per cent above the previous daily record from 31 July 2021 when 56,291 vehicles crossed the Storebælt Bridge.
