Our working environment
Health & Safety for the many people employed at Sund & Bælt’s workplaces is important in their daily work. It is imperative that work-related accidents do not occur. Sund & Bælt has established an efficient working environment organisation and, in tandem with management, employees and partners, takes a proactive approach to the working environment to ensure that accidents and incidents are anticipated before they occur.
In order to maintain a high standard of working environment and to constantly seek to improve it, Sund & Bælt’s Technical Department, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of most of the infrastructure, has received ISO 45001certification. This ensures that any deviations, e.g. in relation to current working environment legislation, are identified and addressed.
The size and design of our infrastructure as well as the traffic require constant focus on our employees’ and partners’ working environment. It must be safe to work – whether this involves inspections or operation and maintenance work. Everyone doing a job on Sund & Bælt’s facilities must have completed and passed a compulsory safety course before they are allowed access.
In order to ensure the best possible conditions for carrying out work on the motorway, work is often completed in the daytime. Sections of Sund & Bælt’s motorways may be blocked to traffic to enable workers to do the job safely and without interruption. Most of the operation and maintenance work on the railway is carried out at night as this causes least disruption and is the safest possible option for workers. One or more tracks can be blocked at a time and the current switched off while the work is being performed.
