Reinstated in the labour market: new job for army veteran

Sund & Bælt recently said goodbye to one of the veterans who has been a familiar face on Sprogø and at Sund & Bælt’s equipment yard for the past three years. His change of workplace follows a civilian job offer from Slagelse municipality.

On 1 September, army veteran Kim began a new working life thanks to the offer of a 'flexjob' at Slagelse municipality where he will work in the children and young people’s department. Kim believes that his time at Sund & Bælt was instrumental in his reinstatement into the labour market.

- My three years at Sund & Bælt enabled me to gain strength and take a further. The surroundings offered me peace, and the people I met during this time only wanted the best for me, explains Kim.

As an army veteran, Kim was attached to Veterans’ Haven, which works with Sund & Bælt. Together with other veterans, Kim helped out with the maintenance work that was required at Sprogø’s properties, jobs that are adapted to the veterans’ specific skills. Kim was then transferred to Sund & Bælt’s equipment depot where he was team leader.

René Pamperin, who is also a veteran and heads up Veterans’ Haven, values the association with Sund & Bælt because it provides veterans with the peace and security essential for their possible return to the labour market.

- Sprogø enables the veterans to work alongside each other in a calm and peaceful environment with no disruptive elements, explains René Pamperin.

- As the veterans become used to the work on Sprogø, they are offered the opportunity to take on more independent jobs in the equipment yard. Kim, for example, in this role as team leader, was responsible for delegating and coordinating tasks.

Sund & Bælt believes that it is important to be part of an all-encompassing labour market which develops people and rewards professional skills. The partnership with Veterans’ Haven is therefore highly valued.

- At Sund & Bælt, we’re delighted that we have been able to contribute to Kim’s return to the labour market. I congratulate Slagelse municipality who are now fortunate enough to have Kim on board and I know for certain that they will be delighted with their choice, says Jens Kjær Nielsen, Toll Station Manager.

The partnership with Veterans’ Haven arose through Slagelse municipality, which focuses on socio-economic projects, which provide an opportunity to people who want to work but have difficulty establishing a foothold in the labour market.

Veterans’ Haven currently has six veterans who have permanent work on Sprogø and in the equipment yard. They are currently painting the former girls’ home on Sprogø.
